Description
The Peace Bridge - This pedestrian and cyclist crossing over the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta, Canada connects Downtown Calgary to the community of Sunnyside. Opened on March 24, 2012, the helical steel and glass-roofed bridge was designed by world renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. Its design followed strict requirements of no piers in the water to minimize its ecological footprint and a low height because of its vicinity to the coty's heliport. The bridge's components were manufactured in Spain and shipped to Calgary for construction.
Most of Calgary's bridges are white - this one is in the colors of Canada's and the City of Calgary's flags - white and red.
