Description
24 wildlife crossings were built over (and under) the Trans-Canada Highway. This one is in the Banff National Park in Alberta. Parks Canada contracted researchers who determined that 10 species of large animals (including deer, elk, black bear, grizzley bear, mountain lion, wolf, moose and coyote) have used these 24 crossings in Banff a total of 84,000 times as of early 2007. These crossings not only decreased traffic-induced mortality of these animals, but have also been beneficial to human driver safety.
